Founder of Events and Digital Communications agency AddingValue, Randle Stonier, has been awarded an honorary degree by Leeds Met, describing the University as putting courses in events management on the map.

Randle began his career in the Royal Navy as a Sub Lieutenant before moving into the events sector. He effected the merger of two main industry players in 2000: Motivforce and Purchasepoint before achieving his ambition of founding his own agency.

He will receive his honorary doctorate in Education from the University's International Faculty.

One of the first events industrialists to support the notion of events education, Randle was a Senior External Examiner for the BA (Hons) Events Management degree course at Leeds Met, the home of the UK Centre for Events Management, for six years.

Mr Stonier said he was "Humbled, delighted and deeply flattered" at receiving the award. He gave credit to our graduating students, saying they have "Embraced opportunities and with the right attitude."

He described graduation as a "Bittersweet moment", adding that the industry was facing one of its biggest challenges during the recession, but explained that since 1996 when the first events management undergraduate degree first began he has "Watched that baby grow - not only walk but sing and scream."
